Roller Sport South Africa (RSSA) hosted the 2012 Open championship at Sun City in North West from 30 March – 1 April 2012. The championship was a huge success and skaters from all over the country talk about the best event ever and international visitors say that they had the best week of their lives!

RSSA faced very big challenges in the organisation of the event brought about by the culmination of many factors including the City of Cape Town’s problems in securing the venue for the hosting of the event after committing to host, the NWPG and SRSA funds channeled to school sport and no NLDTF call for applications since 2010. A small part of our annual SRSA grant was allocated to the hosting of the championship and this became our only finance. Hosting an event of this magnitude without funding is a huge burden on a staff made up of volunteers.
