Nanjing 2016: first day on the road circuit

Today the competitions moved to the road circuit close to the Olympic Gymnasium and started in the early afternoon with the long distance races followed by the 100 mt sprint. All the four 100mt have been won by South American countries. Because of the weather conditions, the 20.000mt Elimination Senior Men did not take place and has been moved to Friday after the Relays.

10.000mt Points Junior Women
The Ecuadorian GABRIELA Vargas easily won the Gold. There was more suspence in the fight for the Silver Medal that went to HUIYAN Fang (CHN); Bronze for MARIA Fernanda Barros (COL).

10.000mt Points Junior Men
Different approaches have been set in the Junior Men category in a competition that required both endurance and strategy. The American CALEB Wakefield ruled in the first half of the race but by the end wa exhausted and was not able to gain more points: it is a Bronze medal. SAUL Herreño (COL) got the most of the points in the second half of the competition whilst DANIELE Di Stefano (ITA), at his debut in the Worlds, came back at 4 laps to the end, but it was not enough for the Gold Medal.

20.000mt Elimination Senior Women
5 athletes arrived at the last sprint: the Colombian team, the Italian FRANCESCA Lollobrigida, MAYRA Yaquel Arias (ARG) and MAREIKE Thum (GER). Team Colombia dominated all the race but at the end only FABRIANA Arias went to the podium with a Gold Medal; Silver for Francesca Lollobrigida and Bronze for MAYRA Yaquel Arias (ARG)

100mt Sprint Junior Women
Geiny Pajaro confirmed herself as one of the most intersting athlete of the Colombian team and won the only Gold Medal for Colombia in the 100s mt. Silver for Giulia Bonechi (ITA) and Bronze for Elisabeth Baier (GER).

100mt Sprint Junior Men
Wilfredo Valbuena (VEN) eliminated the Colombians in the semifinal and got the Gold Medal. Silver for Lukas Lida (SUI) and Bronze for Giacomo Serena (ITA)

One more Gold Medal for Maia Jose Moya Sepulveda (CHI), followed by the Colombian Yesenia Escobar and Laethisia Schimek (GER).

100mt Sprint Senior Men
Mexico won the first Gold Medal thanks to Jorge Luis Martinez Morales. First medal also for Spain with the Silver of Ioseba Fernández. Simon Albrecht added one more medal to the Germany booty.
