The World Championship on the road circuit has kicked off. New nations have joined the event, and exciting races have begun with a bang.
The day featured the "One Lap" event taking center stage for Junior categories, and the challenging long-distance races with the 10000 points Junior and 15000 elimination Senior events.
The circuit is highly technical and winding, and only the athletes who are both technically skilled and strategically prepared will be able to show their best performance.
The first finals were the long-distance ones.
The Junior Ladies race was as unpredictable and spectacular as it could be. At least five girls were in contention for the gold medal, as there were several breakaways. Finally, the incredible performance of Daniela Bustamante from Venezuela got her the gold medal.
In Junior men another country is climbing the medal table. Indeed, the gold medal goes to Silva Afonso from Portugal who with 21 points, he secured the victory of the race.
In the 15000 elimination races, it's crucial to know how to stay within the group, follow the right draft, and conserve energy for the final sprint.
The athletes showed us incredible and precise overtakes to avoid elimination. The king of the race was of course Bart Swings who led the race, proving to be one of the strongest skaters ever seen.
The queen, on the other side, is Gabriela Rueda, specialist of the elimination races. It was pleasantly surprising to see that Mexico also managed to secure a medal with Valentina Letelier, and it's the silver one.
In the one lap race, Colombia continues to showcase its dominance. Superb overtakes and a great display of skill and power. Nicol Escobar and Santiago Velasquez are the amazing winners.
