Everything is set for the first World Skate/SLS World Championships

Starting from tomorrow, Rio will host the first World Skate - sanctioned Championships of Street Skateboarding: 168 riders are reaching the Brasilian capital - 54 girls and 114 boys - coming from 42 Countries, representing all the 5 Continents! The finals will be live on www.worldskate.tv - please check below the schedule.

The final step of the World Skate/SLS Tour 2018 will take place in Arena Carioca 1, on January 8-13: after the amazing events in London, LA and Huntington Beach the expectations are so high even more as it is an all new World Championship format! Only the top 4 skaters in season point standings will advance straight to the Final leaving 4 open slots that will be battled for in a new multi round format including a Quarter Final and Semi Final round.

The top 4 ranked skaters will go straight into the finals. SLS Pros ranked #5 through #20 will advance straight into the Semi Finals and SLS Pros ranked #21-35 will advance straight into the Quarter Final. The Quarter Final will additionally include 15 top up-and-comers from all over the world decided through a Global Open qualification round, all vying for their chance to become a World Champion and join the World Tour.

In the Women's division, all the SLS Pros go straight into the semifinals together with the 10 top up-and-comers from the Global Open: the best 8 skaters advance into the Final.

COMPETITION FORMAT
The Men’s competition comprises 4 rounds: Global Open Qualifier, Quarter Final, Semi Final, and Final. The Women’s competition comprises 3 rounds: Global Open Qualifier, Semi Final, and Final.

Global Open Qualifiers
In the global qualifiers, skaters will compete in heats of up to 9 skaters, 3 skater 3 minutes jam session format.

Quarter Final, Semi Finals and Finals
Skaters will compete in heats of 5 to 6 skaters during the Quarter Final and Semi Final rounds. Finals will feature a single heat comprised of 8 skaters. All three rounds from Quarter Final through Finals will follow the 2/5/4 format in which skaters perform 2 runs of 45 seconds each, followed by 5 single best trick attempts, and wherein their top 4 scores from these 7 attempts will be aggregated to produce their final overall score. Each skater in the heat performs a single attempt at a time, with the heat’s skaters rotating through completely before moving on to the next attempt beginning with the original skater.
