The long wait is finally over and the artistic skating stepped into the Club Sant Jordi, the venue that will host the discipline ‘till the 10th of July of this thrilling World Roller Games 2019.

According to the usual tradition, compulsory figures broke the ice on the Barcelona’s rink, the discipline which demands tracing accuracy, body control and extreme concentration. We already have the first results with junior men and ladies figures. The Italian team got off to a good start thanks to a gold and silver medal in the junior men. Schiavoni Mirco conquered the gold at his first world championship and his fellow Innocenti Luca got the silver, while the Argentinian Facundo Fina won the bronze. With regards to the ladies, the Italians Belloni Gioia and Donadelli Alessia were awarded gold and bronze respectively, while the German Sarah Behlen achieved the silver.

But that’s not all, on day one also the inline figure skating kicked off with a tight competition. Indeed, junior and senior inline skaters performed their short programmes. In the junior category, the Russian Anna Semisynova and the Indian Abhijith Amal Raj stood out with their smoothed skating that they amazingly highlighted during the serpentine step sequences.

For the senior inline ladies, the Italian Censori Chiara is now leading the competition, she demonstrated an incredible self-confidence in her spins, especially the Biellmann one. The Chinese Taipei national team raised the bar with two top skaters in the senior men: Hung-Yu Chien and Yi-Fan Chen (who is the current world champion). Indeed, the two skaters performed beautiful combo jumps with triple toe loop-double toe loop combination. Also for the inline figure skating this is the first world championship with the Rollart, the new scoring system which has shaken up the artistic skating on wheels.

Now we are eagerly waiting for the second round of this exciting competition. Tomorrow it’ll be the turn of the senior men-ladies figures and the junior inline long program while for the senior inline will have to wait until Thursday.
