USA Roller Sports Roller Derby National Championships Heading to Fresno

Roller Derby

After an extensive and careful analysis of the two final candidate hosts, the Fresno Convention Center has been selected as the site for the 2012 USARS Roller Derby National Championship. The event will be held with the support of the NOtown Roller Derby league starting on December 14.

The three-day event will feature twelve teams from across the country competing to win the first-ever USA Roller Sports National Championship. Qualification events to determine the final twelve teams will be played in several cities during September and October:

September 22 - Five Flags Center (Dubuque, IA)

September 29-30 - Stockton Indoor Sports (Stockton, CA)

October 13 - Mobile Civic Center (Mobile, AL)

October 20 - Kootenai County Fairgrounds (Coeur d’Alene, ID)

“We were able to narrow the selection down to two final candidates, and at the end it was difficult to make a final decision because Albuquerque was a very strong candidate and their facilities are top-notch,” said Sabra Bunger, member of the USARS Roller Derby Committee.

“It really came down to the fact that the members of NOtown Roller Derby are very excited to help host this tournament in their city and are committed to making it successful. We all believe that this first year will provide the foundation for future events, so we are making sure the tournament is as organized and positive as possible,” continued Bunger.

The National Championship, including its Regional qualifier events, will be the first official competition to be played under the new USARS Roller Derby Rules, which have received an overwhelmingly positive response from the several teams across the nation that have begun using them.
