Full house at the first day of the World Championships in Ibagué! The love and passion that Colombians have for this sport makes the event an absolute success in terms of participation and media coverage.

The finals of the 200 Dual TT were a real speed show. In the Junior Category, Colombia did not disappoint the expectations. With the time of 18.75 Kollin Castro won the first gold medal for her country, followed by the Spanish duo Ruth Arza and Luisa Maria Gonzalez.

In the Junior Men, Colombia took gold and silver with Jhon Edward Tascon and Salamon Carballo. Bronze went to Italy with Andrea Cremaschi.

In the Senior Ladies Geiny Pajaro, already World Champion in Barcelona, skated a great time of 18.53 and won another gold for Colombia. Silver for Mathilde Perdonno from France and bronze for the Chilean Maria Jose Moya who came back to race after pregnancy.

Steven Villegas and Pedro Causil were the fastest skaters of the day winning gold and silver with the times of 17.23 and 17.26. Bronze for the European Champion, Duccio Marsili, Italy.

The long distance races, 10k points/elimination for Juniors and 10k elimination for Senior, showed once again that Team Colombia today was just unbeatable! The two Junior Maria Chaparro y Maria Camila Vargas went on a breakaway and the rest of the group just couldn’t follow. Bronze medal for Andrea Martina Apabiaza Pita.

The race in the Junior Men started with a group crash, but after that the skaters put the pace at a very high level. Only few could stay in the main group and Colombian Jacobo Mantiila took 29 points and won the race. Second place for Ecuador with Nicolas Garcia and third position for Ricardo Miguel Vega Fonseca.

In the Senior Ladies the well-proven duo Luz Karime Garzon and Fabriana Arias, won respectively gold and silver. France won its second medal of the day with Marine Lefeuvre who got the bronze.

Clean sweep for Colombia then, who won also the last race of the day with Oscar Cobo and Daniel Zapata. A very battled race between Colombia, Italy and France. Until -6 laps to go where a crash of the French team assured the most important medals to Colombia and the bronze to the Italian Giuseppe Bramante.

Tomorrow is another day and for sure the other countries will want to redeem themselves!
