Barcelona 2019 - the World Roller Games are truly on!

The World Skate Congress was held today at the Crowne Plaza Hotel and the local authorities had the first official opportunity to welcome the 82 countries here at the WRG. In the morning, reknown speakers attended the Congress: ASOIF President Francesco Ricci Bitti, Yassine Yousfi from the Olympic Solidarity and Oliver Percovich from Skateistan. From Nanjing 2017, through Barcelona 2019 and to Buenos Aires 2021 the presentations of the hosting cities were connecting the first three editions of the World Roller Games.

In the afternoon, Vilanova and Marbella hosted the semi finals respectively of U19 Men Rink Hockey and Junior Women, Junior Men Inline Hockey tournaments; the first Medals have been awarded yesterday and today in Artistic competitions hold in Montjuic.
Tomorrow the official opening ceremony will take place in Palau Sant Jordi at 8:30 p.m. and will be live streamed at www.rollersports.tv - check here the live streaming schedule.

More than 4,000 athletes from 81 different countries will compete in a total of 128 sports events of 11 disciplines: Alpine, Artistic, Freestyle Roller, Downhill, Inline Freestyle, Inline Hockey, Rink Hockey, Roller Derby, Scooter, Speed and Skateboarding. 15 venues distributed in Barcelona and Catalonian cities (Vilanova i la Geltrú, Sant Cugat del Vallès, Terrassa and Mollet del Vallès) will be the venues of this great international competition. All these figures give an idea of the magnitude of the WRG2019.

Although some tests of Artistic discipline have already started on Tuesday 2nd of July at Sant Jordi Club, and the junior competition was premiered on June 29th with the Inline Hockey and Rink Hockey Championships, the World Roller Games will kick-off on Thursday the 4th of July with the official opening ceremony at Palau Sant Jordi at 8:30 pm with the presence of authorities, athletes and members of the national delegations of the participating countries.

The next day, on July 5th, the competitions get fully underway with the premiere of four disciplines: Downhill, Skateboarding, Scooter and Roller Freestyle. The first one will be based in the Parc de Montjuïc - Passeig del Migdia, while the others will be held in the Palau Sant Jordi. In regards to Skateboarding, the Vert competition will be held at Explanada de la Anella Olímpica.
