Junior and Senior Solo Dance for Ladies and Men started the World Skate Games for Artistic Skating in the most exciting of ways. It was proven that sport is never predictable during the Style Dance portion.

With four required elements, including a set pattern requirement, Style Dance is the first chance the skaters have to display what they have been working a lifetime to show the world. The competition is fierce with three defending champions among the four events.

The Junior Ladies dazzled in the Style Dance with the top three skaters in the World Skate Rankings among the contenders. With the pattern element of the Rocker Foxtrot to a Swing Medley the competition was strong among the 26 skaters. Defending World Champion and World Cup Final Gold Medalist, Roberta Sasso of Italy is currently in first place with 56.95 points. Sasso skated with sureness and fluidity to Roaring 20s and a rendition of Oops I Did It Again to take her to the top of the pack. Lidia Vazquez of Spain with 54.03 points is currently in second place with an impressive and fast performance to You Don’t Love Me and Las Chicas Del Cable. Brazilian Lia Iwazaki is currently in 3rd with a strong and engaging style dance to the music of The Jam and New York, New York while earning 50.29 points.

With less than two points separating 3rd-6th place in the standings it is going to be a battle for every point in the Free Dance. How the podium will turn out is a story to be told during Free Dance.

  1. Roberta Sasso, ITA 56.95
  2. Lidia Vazquez, ESP 54.03
  3. Lia Iwazaki, BRA 50.29

Currently number one in the World Skate Rankings and World Cup Final Gold Medalist Gherardo Altieri Degrassi of Italy is leading the Junior Men’s Solo after a stunning Style Dance. Skating to the music of The Hollywood Wiz and AJ’s Blues he captured the audience with his confidence and energy while receiving all Level 4s among the required elements with a total of 64.87 points. From Portugal, Diogo Costa is in second place with 50 points skating to It’s Lonely at the Top and Mr. Pinstripe. Third place is currently held by World Cup Final Silver Medalist Francesco Vittuari with 48.04 who skated to the music of Have You Met Miss Jones and Puttin’ On The Ritz.

  1. Gherardo Altieri Degrassi, ITA 64.87
  2. Diogo Costa, POR 50.00
  3. Francesco Vittuari, ITA 48.04

Perhaps one of the biggest displays of the modernization of Artistic Skating is within Senior Solo Style Dance. With the Rhythm Roll as the pattern requirement skated to a Modern medley the music is always crowd pleasing and shows the different personalities of the athletes not seen before.

Senior Ladies Solo is a packed competition. The three medalists from last year's Worlds are all back in hopes of staying on the podium and perhaps climbing a step higher. Natalia Baldizzone Morales of Spain, defending World Champion and the current World Cup Final Gold Medalist, is first after a captivating Style Dance to the music of Lady Gaga. With a score of 65.10, Morales gained all Level 4s on her required elements with great quality and beautiful speed.  Returning World Silver Medalist Emilia Zimermann of Germany also achieved all Level 4s on the required elements with 63.30 points. Skating to the music of The Pussycat Dolls, Zimermann was relishing her moment on the floor with a great and energized performance. World Bronze Medalist of 2021, Asya Sofia Testoni of Italy stands in third after a strong and distinct Style Dance to the music of Escalate and Sidi Mansour. With a score of 62.14, Testoni and Zimermann have less than two points between them.

With the top three ladies in close competition to see who will be World Champion 2022, the Free Dance in the Ladies is assured to be a memorable event.

  1. Natalia Baldizzone Morales, ESP 65.10
  2. Emilia Zimermann, GER 63.30
  3. Asya Sofia Testoni, ITA 62.14

The Senior Men's Solo Style Dance was proof that in sport anything can happen at any moment. Brayan Carreño of Colombia is in 1st place after a magnetic performance that lit up the rink. Skating to the music of Boom Boom and Can’t Hold Us Carreño achieved all Level 4s on the elements and a total score of 65.14.  Currently third in the World Skate Rankings and the 2021 World Bronze medalist Giovanni Piccolantonio of Italy stands in second place with a score of 61.29.  Skating to the music of Labrinth, Piccolantonio skates with a unique elegance that is not often seen.  In third place is Mattia Qualizza of Italy with 58.91 points.  Last year’s World Silver medalist, Qualizza had the highest components of the event with his fluid and expressive program to music of Emerge, Human and Prologue.  He showed why he is one of the best performers in the world.  With uncharacteristic mistakes defending World Champion and World Cup Final Gold medalist Llorenc Alavrez Caballero of Spain finds himself in 5th position after the Style Dance.

The Free Dance is going to challenge the skaters to the fullest extent. One mistake and things could change. Nothing can be ruled out at this point. It is an event not to be missed!

  1. Brayan Carreño, COL 65.14
  2. Giovanni Piccolantonio, ITA 61.29
  3. Mattia Qualizza, ITA 58.91
