WSG Argentina: Artistic, Style Dance for Couples and Pairs Short Program delighted the packed crowd at the America Pavilion

Style Dance for Couples and Pairs Short Program delighted the packed crowd at the America Pavilion! To see the evolution of both of these disciplines through the years is awe inspiring.

The 2022 World Skate Games is proving exactly that. Couples Dance are doing extremely complex technical elements combined with entertaining choreography and beautiful partnering that tells a true story.  If skaters could ever fly, it is in Pairs. Difficult overhead lifts, high flying throw jumps and innovative contact spins are only part of what makes Pairs such a special event.

Among the field of Junior Couples Dance were 11 teams who represented nine different countries. Junior Couples Style Dance includes the Viennese Waltz as the pattern to an Opera/Musical medley. Roberta Sasso and Gherardo Altieri Degrassi of Italy came into the event as the returning World Champions as well as the current World Cup Gold Medalists.  To the music of The Prince of Egypt they performed with elegance and ease to take first place in Style Dance. With 63.85 points they have a solid lead. Andreia Oliveira and Diogo Costa of Portugal currently are in second place.  They earned 47.83 points with their strong Style Dance to Jekyll and Hyde. Lidia Mateo Vazquez and Manuel Delgado Alonso of Spain are very close behind in third place with 47.06 points. To the music of Bonnie & Clyde, it was a well paced Style Dance.

Featuring the Starlight Waltz as the required pattern to an Opera/Musical medley, the Senior Couples Dance were strong and ready to battle it out. In a deep field with 15 teams from 11 different countries, the Style Dance was an event not to be missed.  World Games 2022 Gold Medalists Ana Walgode and Pedro Walgode of Portugal are in first place after a seamless Style Dance. Scoring 67.62 points they displayed high levels of difficulty and wonderful partnering skating to the music of Mon Couer S’Ouvre a Ta Voix/I Belong To You. Currently in second place are Catarina Artoni and Raoul Allegranti of Italy. The World Cup Final Gold Medalists skated with a graceful elegance to Romeo and Juliette to earn 62.02 points. Defending World Champions and 2022 World Games Silver Medalists Asya Sofia Testoni and Gianvoanni Piccolantonio of Italy performed with speed and unison to the music of Nine and captured 60.01 points and are currently in third.

Perhaps one of the most dynamic and innovative events of Artistic Skating is Pairs.  In Junior Pairs Short Program Matilde Caputo and Jacopo Campoli of Italy are in first place.  Skating to Sweet Dreams and earning 67.69 points they showed why their future looks bright. In second place is the pair of Anna Giulia Calabrese and Lorenzo Tommasi of Italy. Currently with 42.84 points they skated to the music Horchat Hai Caliptus. Milena Azzara and Esteban Alvarez of Argentina earned 37.34 points.  In front of their home country crowd they skated to a Tango medley.

Six time Senior Pairs World Champions and 2022 World Cup Final Gold Medalists Rebecca Tarlazzi and Luca Lucaroni earned 91.67 in their Short Program.  To the music of The Song of Hope, they skated brilliantly with excellent unison to finish in first place. Silver Medalists of the World Cup Final and 2021 World Champions Alice Esposito and Federico Rossi skated a powerful and gorgeous Short Program to the music of Pasional to score 73.26 points.  Micol Mills and Tommaso Cortini of Italy are in third place. With 52.81 points earned they skated to  the music No Time to Die.

Free Dance for Couples Dance and the Pairs Long Program will be skated on Sunday, October 30.  It will be an evening that looks to be filled with spectacular programs, innovative moments and extremely high levels of technical difficulty. 

The winners will not only claim the title of World Champion. This year’s Worlds is a special moment for the sport as the first World Championship where skaters will earn points to set off the rankings for next season. The winners will be awarded points which will lead to the Artistic Skating Series 2023 culminating in the World Cup Final. 

Saturday, October 29 at 8:00 am ART will kick off the Inline Short Programs of the World Skate Games at the America Pavilion at Youth Olympic Park
