WSG Argentina: Artistic, Rebecca Tarlazzi and Pau Garcia confirmed again as World Champions

The 2022 World Skate Games in Argentina can go down in the history books for the legend-making performances in Senior Free Skating before the sold out, standing-room-only crowd at America Pavilion. Records were set, personal bests were achieved and the atmosphere was electric.

Senior Free Skating Long Programs are what many consider the pinnacle events in Artistic Skating. The passion, grit and determination does not go unnoticed. In the 2022 season with the introduction of the World Cup format and also a World Games year many of the top ranked skaters have battled all year long. The anticipation was extreme to find out who would reign supreme at the 66th World Championship for Artistic Skating.

Defending champion and World Cup Final Gold Medalist Rebecca Tarlazzi of Italy soared to victory and a standing ovation with her Gold Medal performance in Senior Ladies Free Skating. Skating with grace and poise, Tarlazzi scored 207.48 total points in her Long Program packed with five triple jumps. Tarlazzi skated to Vocalise/Total View with skilled jumps, fast and brilliant spins and choreography presented with wonderful enchantment and joy. Winning the Silver Medal in her first Senior World Championship is Giada Luppi of Italy. With a stage show dynamic quality about her, Luppi scored 188.40 total points while skating to the music of Express/I Am a Good Girl/Burlesque. Carla Escrich of Spain captured the Bronze Medal with an energetic program skated to the music of Call To Prayer/Between Roads. Escrich earned 174.94 total points.

With a remarkable 15 Gold Medals to her name, Rebecca Tarlazzi now ties the record for the winningest artistic skater ever at a World Championship.

The Senior Men Free Skating Long Program brought high emotions, near perfect elements, unparalleled artistry and more standing ovations. Defending World Champion and World Games Gold Medalist Pau Garcia of Spain skated with intrinsic elegance while executing eight triple jumps and impressive spins all with breathtaking ease. To the music of Ava Maria, Garcia delighted the crowd with his Gold Medal win and a record-breaking 289.04 total points. Surging from fourth in the Short Program to the Silver Medal with 246.07 total points was Alessandro Liberatore of Italy.  Skating to the music of E Lucian Le Stelle, Liberatore skated with confidence and a beautiful, cultivated style while performing wonderfully executed elements including a Level 4 Step Sequence. Hector Diez Severino of Spain won the Bronze Medal in his first appearance at a Senior World Championship. To the music of The Prince of Egypt, Severino scored 242.09 points.

Since 1947, World Champions throughout the years have created their legacy to allow the sport to evolve and develop to the magnitude it is now. The passion and desire of the current group of 2022 World Champions is something that will not be forgotten. Every year the standard rises, the artistic quality deepens and the drive allows the sport to grow and push forward. This affirms that Artistic Skating is the best sport in the world!

It has been a remarkable World Championship so far.The new World Champions in Free Skating, Pairs and Dance not only have Gold Medals, they have also earned the top points to kick off this important moment in Artistic Skating history. This is the first World Championship where skaters earned points to start the rankings for next season to head into the Artistic Skating Series 2023 leading to the World Cup Final.

Saturday starts the medal quest for Junior Precision, Junior Quartets and Small Show. Competition begins at 17:20 ART at America Pavilion at Youth Olympic Park.
