On this second day of competition, teams are settling into their games more and more, and we are beginning to see the form that you might expect from the top sides.  However, at the Worlds, drama is only ever just a goal or a penalty away.

In the Junior Mens, we have seen the Italians come back into their championship by taking on Brazil, who did well to hold the Italians to only 5, and scoring one as well to add to their total, ending at 5-1.

In the Europe pavilion, the shock result for the Americans, coming up against a side from Chinese Taipei that is looking like a contender for clinching the division! They answered the early American goal from Phillips, with two rapid replies from the emerging talent of Yen Chen Tung, who would score later in the first half again, and his teammate Cheng You Kuo, who would also score again later in the second.  A goal from team USA’s 66 Soboslay, and a last ditch effort from number 4 Pietromonaco offered some hope to the young Americans, But the second half was all about the Taipei team, who beat them in an upset to the form book by 5-3.

The Czech boys played comprehensively against the emerging Korean team, setting them up nicely at the top of their division, with a win of 8-2.  Meanwhile, at the same time Namibia were working hard to upset the form yet again in the Europe pavilion, only just being edged out by one goal in this offensive focused match.  Final score 6-7 v France, who are also on a strong run to top position in the group.  Team USA later struggled again vs Italy, in a close match that had to use the shoot-out to determine the winner, once Italy’s Lazzari finished just before the final buzzer to even the score at 2-2.  Italy will take the win and move up the ladder towards the finals.  Columbia could not stop the march of the Taipei team in their later match, and it finished in a respectably close 2-1 for the Islanders in the China Sea.  The Koreans bounced back from earlier defeat, and pulled a win away from Argentina which will take the Koreans off the bottom of that table, and with Argentina with work to do to find something to delight and excite the local crowd.  The final match would be an exciting clash between two sides with great potential, and it was the French who came out on top with a big 3-0 shut-out against a Czech team who were strong earlier in the day. The French spread their goals from the start of the match, and killed it off at the end during desperate hours for the Czechs, who will have to consolidate to recover.  The table looks good for the French in top position in the A pool, and Chinese Taipei dominating the B pool.  Exciting matches to watch tomorrow will be Namibia v Korea in some classic mid-table clashes, and USA v Columbia, where the columbians must believe they have a chance to strike, while the Americans will want to come back strong and recover.

Over in the Senior Women’s competition, The form book was followed for the most part, With a strong Italian performance over Brazil, resulting in 11-1.  Emanuela Lopes shocking the Italians with the first goal of the match, but only shocking them into serious action!  Spain overcame Uruguay comprehensively at 13-0 and maintaining their momentum towards the top of the table.  The home fans were offered something to really cheer as Argentina beat Colombia 4-0. With goals being shared around the team.  Team Canada bounced back from their bitter loss yesterday and repaired their position in the table with a clean win over Mexico, who still managed to score 2 past the Canadian keeper, the final there 5-2.  USA came out strong with the intention of keeping their goal tally high against emerging side Brazil 17-0, but not nearly as much as France were determined to do as well.  Though France have only played 2 so far, their march towards gold looks strong as ever with an overwhelming dominance v Uruguay.  No less than 27 goals sending the scorekeepers into a frenzy, and the Uruguayans into a spin.  Expect them to do something similar to the hosts tomorrow morning.  Other matches to watch tomorrow are Mexico v Italy, where the result could move either team in the right direction.  USA v Italy, who could easily prove to be a banana skin for the Americans as tiredness and fatigue begin to creep in this intense schedule.  At 7pm local, all eyes will be on Spain v France, in a real glimpse into a potential semi or even final.  The rest here could define the rest of the tournament for either team, so it's everything to play for.  Join Worldskate live on Worldskate TV for select match streams, and on Worldskate.rsportz for all the details in results and standings as we look forward to day three at the games.
