Let’s start from the end: What a night for Argentina! In their second match of the World Championship, the host team, beat the Italian national team by 8-4 (4-2 at half-time), becoming the Pool B leader (with six points) at a half-full Aldo Cantoni (almost four thousand people!).
Only six minutes after starting the game, Argentina had already scored four goals. Imposing high pressure and with fast movements, they manage to disrupt the Squadra Azzurra attempts to reach the opposing goal.
After suffering the fourth, Italy improved its man-to-man marking and manage to put a stop to the Argentine attacks for a while. Matteo Cardella and Giulio Piccoli found their way to the goal and scored the two Italian goals before half-time.
In the second half, Italy tried its best to shorten the scoreboard despite Argentina’s fifth goal at minute 19. Liam Bozzeto reduced to 5-3, but then the locals began to take advantage again on the scoreboard, with the match ending with an important win for the locals.
In the previous game, the Iberian duel ended with a three-goal tie (0-3 at half-time). Portugal and Spain were the stars of a thrilling game divided literally into two parts: the first half owned by the Portuguese team and the second by the Spanish one.
Portugal began at a high pace, controlling the rink and scoring three goals in the first half. In the second half, the roles were reversed: Spain believed that the rebound was possible and also scored three goals, with the match ending with a tie.
Once there’s no goal average in the championship, at the end of each game, three direct shots are performed so that, in the event of a punctual tie, the classification can be decided. In the end, the Portuguese team was more effective, with the goalkeeper Kiko Fernandes defending all three Spanish shots, and Portugal scoring twice through Tiago Sanches and Viti.
In case there’s a tie at the end of the Group Stage, between the two teams, Portugal has the advantage over Spain to advance to the next phase, in first place in Group A.
In the first two matches of the day, the Chilean and Colombian national teams made their debut yesterday, at the U19 World Championship, and did not differ from yesterday's results, having won Mexico and USA by 0-16 (0-12 at half-time) and 1-12 (1-7 at half-time), respectively.
Despite the slight improvement of the Mexican team, compared to yesterday's match against Italy, the skill difference between the two teams was noticeable. After the first five minutes, Martín Molina opened the score for Chile, allowing his team to be less nervous and take full control of the match. From there, Chile was unstoppable until the end of the first half. A highlight for the Mexican player, Paris González, who was tireless in the attempt to reach the opposing goal.
In the second half, Chile started to rotate more the ball between players, with long touches, and only tried the goal in the ten seconds left for the end of the possession time. It was a good game for Chile to prepare for the next - more difficult match -, against Argentina.
Also in its debut, Colombia won with a resounding result. Colombia, a more experienced team, encounter an, at times, somewhat naïve USA, especially when trying to score, which facilitated the Colombian game. As expected, Colombia showed a more dynamic way of playing, resulting in an excellent premiere in the Aldo Cantoni, with Oscar Pataquiva scoring five of the 14 goals for his team. Genaro Comelio was the sole scorer of the American goals.
