With just one day left to know, for certain, which two teams will join Argentina on the Top Four of the championship, this Wednesday, in the first match of the day, Colombia beat the British team, 3-5 (1-2 at half-time). This result allows Colombia to dream of a place in the semi-finals, if they manage to win tomorrow's game, against Portugal.
Colombia was the first one to score, through Rodrigo Zapata and, it was soon realized, that the Colombian offensive was going to do everything to reach the opponent’s area, always with two men in front.
The half-time result encouraged Great Britain not to give up, even with Colombia scoring in the first minute of the second half. However, the speed of the South Americans over the British defence, was the key to the Colombian victory.
Next on the menu, a game without much to write about - given the unequal level of the two teams on the rink- except for having confirmed the Spanish team presence onto the semi-finals. Now, Spain only needs to find out in which place: 1st or second, waiting for Portugal’s match, against Colombia, tomorrow.
It was an unceremonious Spanish team that beat USA by 18-0 (14-0 at half-time), scoring the first goal in the first minute of the match, by Eloi Cervera. The reigning champions played everything in the first half while, in the second, it was a Spanish monologue, with the team choosing to practice ball possession up to the limit of the 45 seconds. No surprise on the final result here, with Spain waiting now to see who its opponent will be in the next phase.
If there were no surprises in the previous match, the same cannot be said about Switzerland vs Chile, with the Swiss surprising and winning 4-1 (2-1 at half-time), complicating Chile’s math to qualify for the semi-finals.
In the first ten minutes of the game, the Swiss were quick in after recovering the ball and reached the goal, at minute 20, by Mattia Bigiotti. Just as they went fast to the attack, they quickly organized themselves in defence, which made it difficult for the Chileans to reach the goal. The Swiss national team turned out to be superior in the face of Chile's ineffectiveness and slowness. Benjamin Osorio was the sole scorer for Chile.
An unconcerned Argentina, having already secured its place in the semi-finals, closed this fourth day of competition with an 8-4 victory over Mexico (4-0 at half-time), guaranteeing the first place in Pool B, with four games, four wins and 12 points.
The host team played at slow speed, with no resistance from the Mexicans, perhaps with their minds on tomorrow's day off, and just waiting to know who its opponent in the semis will be.
