Fédération Internationale Roller Sports President Sabatino Aracu says "A further significant step towards the Olympics" - In August 2016 the IOC will make the final decision

With a note addressed to FIRS President Sabatino Aracu, today the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee announced that Skateboarding has been included among the proposals of additional events that will be part of its Programme for the XXXII Olympic Games.
The Committee’s recommendation, made after a selection process started in May, will be presented to the International Olympic Committee that, as provided in the Olympic Charter, will take the final decision during the 129th IOC Session that will take place on August 2016 in Rio de Janeiro.
The events proposed for Skateboarding are Street (Men/Ladies) and Park (Men/Ladies) with the participation of 40 athletes (20 men and 20 women) each, while the entirety of the events includes 5 new disciplines (Skateboard, Baseball/Softball, Karate, Sports Climbing and Surfing) and the participation of 474 athletes.
FIRS President Sabatino Aracu's immediate comment: "I am extremely pleased with the work carried out by the whole FIRS team over these past months and with the professionalism and reliability that the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee's showed from the very first day.
Tokyo 2020 has a great responsibility because it has to put the new principles of the 2020 Agenda and the new direction that Tomas Bach has decided to give to the Olympic Games into practice for the very first time.
We know that the path is still long but we are confident that with our efforts the FIRS will bring great added value to Tokyo 2020 both in terms of youth participation and in terms of sponsors and media coverage. I am convinced that, thanks to the Games, the Roller movement will further develop Roller Sports not only in Japan but all over the World".
