FIRS research proves that Roller Sports are not high-risk sports

The 2014 IOC World Conference on Prevention of Injury and Illness in Sport came to a close on 12 April in Monaco and hailed a success with record participation.

The meetings were attended by participants from 81 countries and have been constructive yet for researchers and practitioners in the field of sports medicine and prevention. Experts, team physicians from National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and International Federations (IFs), and students exchanged news of the latest research and advances in the prevention of injury and illness in athletes. FIRS participation contributed both for the success of the conference and for the spread of the conviction that Roller Sports are safe and not high-risk sports. In fact the causes of accidents have been identified in factors related to training strategies and in the role of the coach: he has to find the appropriate solutions.

The IOC has supported the research conducted by Dr. Maurizio Lollobrigida and others, “Epidemiology and prevention of accidents in Roller Sports (RS). Four years of studies and observations on accidents of Italian Federation (FIHP) skaters. Probable causes and prevention” that has been presented in Monte-Carlo as a thematic poster discussion session.
