Dear Friends,
2016 has been a somewhat incredible year, one of those years that will surely stay in our memory: we are finally an Olympic Federation and I believe we couldn’t get a better present for the closure of this four-year period.
The announcement that Skateboarding will be in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games has been received with joy and satisfaction by the whole Roller World because it represents the chance we have been dreaming about and requesting: the chance to demonstrate the worth of our sport and our values within the Olympic family! And by this family we are considered an active part and are recognized by it more and more: think, for example, of the change of our headquarters that have brought our offices directly in Lausanne’s Maison du Sport since the beginning of 2016.
Or think of the Panamerican Games, Asian Games, World Games, University Games, Youth Olympic Games: these are all a clear example of the Roller Sports being present in the main international multi-sport events and demonstrate how the different souls that compose the roller world are vital for a successful event.
2016 is indeed a year to remember but I am confident that 2017 will nevertheless be equally as great and it could hardly be otherwise seeing that, for the first time in history, all the World Championships of the different FIRS disciplines will be carried out at once. The FIRS, the city of Nanjing and the Chinese Federation are working very hard for the success of this event so that our disciplines can get the recognition they surely deserve.

2016: Un Año para recordar
Estimados amigos,
El 2016 fue un año para algunos versos sorprendentes, uno de esos años que permanecerán en la memoria: por fin hemos llegado a ser una Federación Olímpica y creo de que no haya mejor regalo para el cierre de este período de cuatro años.
El anuncio de que el Skateboarding estará en los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio2020 fue recibido con gran alegría y satisfacción en todo nuestro mundo, la oportunidad que tantas veces hemos soñado y solicitado: la oportunidad de afirmar nuestro deporte y nuestros valores dentro de la familia olímpica! Y en esta familia nosotros somos, cada vez más, una parte activa y reconocida: basta pensar en en el hecho de haber mudado la sede de nuestras oficinas en la Maison Du Deporte en Lausana a principios de 2016.
O en los diversos Juegos, Panamericanos, Asiáticos, Mundiales, Universitarios y a los Juegos Olímpicos de la Juventud: todos ejemplos de cómo, ahora, los deportes sobre ruedas están presentes en los principales juegos multideportivos internacionales y de cómo las diversas almas del mundo de las ruedas puedan ser vitales para el el éxito de un evento.
El 2016 es un año para recordar, pero estoy seguro que el 2017 no será diferente, y no podría ser de otra manera, ya que será el año en el que por primera vez en la historia reunirá todos los Campeonatos del Mundo en una misma sede. Por esta razón la FIRS y la ciudad de Nanjing, junto con la Federación China, están trabajando sin descanso para garantizar que nuestras maravillosas disciplinas ganen la atención que se merecen.
Les deseo unas tranquilas vacaciones con sus seres queridos y que el nuevo sea año llenos de sueños y planes.
