Happy 90th birthday, FIRS! Dear friends, I cannot begin this editorial without congratulating FIRS that, being 90 years old of age, could pass for a graceful teenager and continues to fascinate people all around the world with its youthful charm! 90 years have...
passed from the 21st of April 1924, when the representatives of a small group of countries (Switzerland, Germany, France and Great Britain) met in the Casino of Montreux to found the Fédération Internationale de Patinage à Roulettes, the first foundation of what would eventually become one of the International Federations with the most ancient tradition and greater global spread.
Could Mr. Fred Renkewitz (Switzerland), first President, and Mr. Otto Meyer (Switzerland), first Secretary General, envision that they were laying the basis for a Federation that 90 years later would have reached such a level of diffusion and capillary action resulting in the organization of World Championships with over 80 participating nations?
Maybe they would have not believed so, but they definitely already had guessed that Roller Sports possess the potential to attract young people from all over the world and to reinvent themselves by seizing every time the stimulating proposals that a society in constant motion requires.
Over 50 millions aficionados continue to be passionate about all our disciplines: because the real strenght of Roller Sports stems from the ability to transform the most natural gesture for man – the movement – into something that is simply faster, more elegant and spectacular.
FIRS has faced many challenges during these 90 years in order to always keep up with the times, as required by the very nature of our social and athletic substratum which is what allows our Federation to keep on living and be young, despite the passing of the years, being able to make tradition and innovation perfectly coexist and always giving voice to all the different souls that are part of it.
The recent change of Statute, for example, has allowed us to modernize our Federation and make it more dynamic: a “facelift” that immediately borne fruits also thanks to the launch of the FIRS World Championships – Roller Games.
And then, right at the beginning of 2014, FIRS received perhaps the greatest gift for its birthday: the inclusion for the first time in the Youth Olympics. What an interesting coincidence! This elderly “Lady” is always able to entertain and excite the younger audience, with even greater enthusiasm than 90 years ago, making the first steps towards the Olympic Dream, starting from the Youth Olympics!

Feliz Cumpleaños FIRS- unos fabulosos 90 años sobre ruedas
¡Feliz cumpleaños numero 90 FIRS!
Queridos amigos,
no podía empezar este editorial sin mis mejores deseos a FIRS por llevar sus 90 años con la ligereza de una adolescente y hechizando a los jóvenes de todo el mundo!
Pues sí, 90 años han pasado desde que el 21 de abril de 192, cuando los representantes de un pequeño grupo de países (Suiza, Alemania, Francia y Gran Bretaña), se reunieron en el Casino de Montreux para fundar la Federación Internacional de Patinage a Roulette, el primer núcleo de lo que más adelante sería una de las Federaciones Internacionales de más antigua tradición y difusión a nivel mundial.
Jamás podrían imaginar el Sr. Fred Renkewitz (Suiza), el primer Presidente, y el Sr. Otto Meyer (Suiza), el primer Secretario General, que estaban sentando las bases de una Federación que, 90 años más tarde, habría llegado a tener este nivel de difusión y capilaridad, hasta ser capaz de organizar los Campeonatos del Mundo con más de 80 naciones participantes.
Tal vez no lo creían posible, pero sin duda ya había adivinado que los deportes sobre ruedas tienen un potencial, la capacidad de atraer a los jóvenes de todo el mundo y de saber renovarse aprovechando siempre de las propuestas estimulantes propias de una sociedad en constante movimiento. Más de 50 millones de practicantes en el mundo se siguen aficionando a todas nuestras disciplinas, porque la verdadera fuerza de los deportes sobre ruedas se debe a la capacidad de transformar el gesto más natural para el hombre, el movimiento, en algo más rápido, más elegante, más espectacular.
FIRS se ha enfrentado a muchos desafíos en estos 90 años para permanecer a altura de los tiempos, como lo requiere la naturaleza propia del sustrato social y atlético que la alimenta y le permite ser joven. A pesar del paso del los años reúne en manera perfecta tradición e innovación y da voz a todas las almas diferentes que la componen.
El reciente cambio de los Estatutos, por ejemplo, le ha permitido ser más moderna y dinámica: un "lavado de cara", que de inmediato dio los primeros frutos con la puesta en marcha de los Campeonatos del Mundo de FIRS – Roller Games:
Y justo al principio del 2014 FIRS ha recibido tal vez el mejor regalo para su cumpleaños: la participación, por primera vez, en los Juegos Olímpicos de la juventud, una coincidencia interesante. Eso sí: esta vieja "Lady" es capaz de entretener y excitar a los más jóvenes, incluso con mayor entusiasmo que hace 90 años, así que toma los primeros pasos hacia el Sueño Olímpico justo a partir de los Juegos Olímpicos de la Juventud!
