WRG 2019 ARTISTIC: A tight race in Senior Solo Style Dances

Flamenco, tango and paso doble are the music that introduced the audience to this afternoon’s competitions. We started with senior style dances for the solo dance discipline, and “Spanish medley” was the musical theme for this first technical segment. Women broke the ice and the German Emilia Alexandrovna Zimermann is currently staying ahead of the competition with a high technical score and an engaging performance. Emilia is followed by the Portuguese Ana Luisa Monteiro Walgode and by the Italian Anna Remondini who is in third position, both skaters with good programs as well.

Come as no surprise the current first place of Daniel Morandin among senior solo dance men. He skated his style dance beautifully with a high score in the components. At the second position we find Pedro Monteiro Walgode, from Portugal, who executed good technical elements, especially concerning the compulsory dance (Tango Delancha). At his first year in senior category, the Italian Mattia Qualizza definitely conquered a provisional third place. A good result for this young athlete at his first year as a senior skater.

After the solo dance it was junior pairs’ turn to enter the skating rink. Micol Mills and Tommaso Cortini from Italy are the current leading couple thanks to a good execution of the technical elements and an pleasant choreography. These young and talented athletes are followed by the Portuguese Catarina Cunha Craveiro and Diogo Antonio Cunha Craveiro (who already won a silver medal in junior free skating) and by their fellow citizens Angelica Bertoldi and Claudio Casini.

Finally, to conclude this day 8, junior couples dance proved their skills on some catchy style dances. Rock medley was their musical theme. The German couple Palmira Seeger Suarez and Paul Turbanow is currently first. They drew judges’attention with a good execution of the compulsory dance (Dench Blues) and a spectacular dance lift combo. Caterina Artoni and Raoul Allegranti from Italy are in second position while the Portuguese Bruna Pinheiro and Ernesto Silva are occupying the third place of the provisional standings.
