Spain and France have won their qualifying groups after the first two matchdays and have put themselves in the best position in the play-off picture. The European teams also claimed two wins on this second matchday. France beat Chile by a convincing 7–2, with another outstanding performance from Carlo di Benedetto, who scored five goals. Spain, meanwhile, recorded an important 4–2 victory over Portugal in the European “clásico”. Attacking efficiency was key against an ever-energetic Portugal. Cervera and Roca put Spain on the highway to victory after just seven minutes. Portugal struggled to threaten even in the second half, when Grau made it 3–0. The Portuguese raised the tempo in the final 15 minutes, with goals from Rocha and Alves, but Spain added another late on through Manrubia. Italy comfortably won their first match, beating Switzerland 10–2, with Compagno and Gavioli each scoring a hat-trick. Argentina also won their first match against Angola, but it was a very intense game. The final score was 4–1, with Martinez scoring twice in the second half.

The final qualifying matchday features the two most intriguing fixtures. Italy–Portugal (17:45 local time) is followed by the South American derby between Chile and Argentina (20:00). The two leaders, France and Spain, will play at 13:15 against Angola and 15:30 against Switzerland, respectively.

Only two leaders remain in the Intercontinental Men’s competition: Austria and Colombia. Austria beat Mexico 12–0 without breaking a sweat (with five goals from Hagspiel). Colombia edged out Brazil 3–2, with the deadlock broken three minutes from time by a goal from Aristizabal. South Africa and Australia drew 2–2: after Madeira scored for South Africa, Miranda equalised. Mortagua, then Miranda again, set the final score at 2–2. The third matchday features Australia–Austria (10:30), Mexico–Colombia (12:45) and South Africa–Brazil (15:00).
