In an amazing Final against Argentina, Spain renewed in Nanjing the title won last year in Iquique. Once again, extra times were necessary and gave the victory to Spain. A match that will surely enter into the history of Female Rink Hockey. Not only because assigned the first gold medal for female rink hockey at the World Roller Games, but for the great match that Argentina and Spain played at the Longjiang Gymnasium in Nanjing. Sixty minutes of pure and top level hockey, because the regular times weren't enough to choose which team should be the new World Champion. The new rules did the rest: without the golden goal (cut away from August, 1st), the extra times were simply amazing, with four goals scored.
In less than 5 minutes, both teams already had scored a goal on penalty: Argentina first with Valentina Fernandez and then Spain with Natasha Lee. The girls on the rink play with great determination, sometime over the rules. The portuguese referees need to use blue cards to control the game: Sara Gonzales (Spain) and Melisa Rodriguez (Argentina) goes simultaneously to the punished bench after 13 minutes. Another back-and-forth a few seconds later: First Spain goes ahead with Berta Busquets, then Daiana Silva ties for Argentina. With 7 minutes still to play, Laura Pidgueta scores the goal that let the defending champion to close the 1st half ahead by 3-2.
The 2nd half opens with the Argentinian draw by Adriana Gutierez, but Spain scores again with Laura Pigdueta and keeps a little but important advantage. Both teams reach the 10th foul a few seconds one from the other: Argentina first, but Natasha Lee doesn't double the advantage. On the other hand, Julieta Fernandez does it better and scores the goal of the 4-4 that brings the match to extra times.
The golden goal suppressed from the rules a few weeks ago, the prolongation is much more spectacular, with the teams attacking without fears. Once again, Argentina goes ahead thanks to a goal scored by Adriana Gutierrez, but Anna Casarramona ties before the end of the 1st extra time. The decisive advantage of Spain is scored by Berta Busquet when only 2 minutes remaining to play. While the Argentinian girls try to find a way in the Spanish defence, the coach of Argentina is shown a blue card for protests and Maria Diez scores the 7-5. The result remains the same even when Argentina has its last opportunity with the penalty failed by Valentina Fernandez with only 18 seconds to play.
Yesterday, Germany won the bronze medal winning 3-0 against Chile.
