10 days to go: World Skate officially presents Rome 2021 Street Skateboarding World Championships

With the Colosseum as a perfect background and the skaters enjoying Colle Oppio Skatepark ramps, World Skate President Sabatino Aracu officially presented the Street World Championships that will be held in the Stadio Pietrangeli, in the Foro Italico in Rome starting from May 30 until June 6.

All podium spots in Rome will earn direct access to the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo, and the other athletes will get the chance to earn points and climb the ranking that will select the rest of the skateboarders flying to Japan for the Games.

The Mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi attended the press conference together with Vito Cozzoli - President of Sport e Salute – coorganizer of the event together with the FISR – Federazione Italiana Sport Rotellistici.

"Hosting the world skate championships in Rome is a true sign of change" said the Mayor who also announced that more areas will be soon dedicated to this discipline: "We are also building another new brand street park at Tre Fontane".

We are doing a lot to enhance this sport complex." - explained Cozzoli - "The young spirit of this sport and the city of Rome will be a winning combination for the world".

Sabatino Aracu remarked it: "This is just a starting point: We want Rome to become the Wimbledon of skateboarding." - and added - " Thanks to our sport we can support important stories of social redemption ".

COMPETITION FORMAT
The Qualifier round of competition comprises the following athletes:

  • Country Quota Athletes, 5 per gender and discipline per each NGB
  • Athletes ranked 6th to 30th in the WSR
  • Wild Card Athletes

The Semi-final round of competition comprises a total of 32 athletes.

  • Pre-Seeded Athletes: Ranked 1st to 5th in the WSR
  • Top 27 ranked athletes advancing from the Qualifier round (minimum)
  • The best 8 athletes of the Semi-final will advance to the Final
