The Lungomare di Pescara provided a unique backdrop to the 100m drag race at the Speed Skating World Championships.

It's the race where the world's fastest skaters battled for gold. 

The day unfolded with various qualification rounds and the athletes competed on a straight of two lanes.

In the junior women category, the final saw a head-to-head between the young Sofia Chiumiento and Dairy Londono Cardenas. Sofia claimed the first gold medal of the day with an impressive time, while Dairy secured silver. The bronze went to Asia Negri.

Cristian Scassellati of Italy emerged as the fastest skater in the junior men’s category. Zhi Yuan Pan from China earned the silver, marking the first world championship medal for China this year. Italy’s Alessio Mannai completed the podium, taking third place.

In the senior women's event, Ivonne Nochez Gallardo from El Salvador confirmed her status as one of the fastest women on skates, stopping the clock with a remarkable time to take gold. Haila Brunet Alvarez from France earned silver, while Valeria Rodriguez Lopez brought home another medal for Colombia, finishing third.

In the senior men’s final, Spain’s Jhoan Guzman was crowned the fastest man on skates with an incredible time of 9.74, finally capturing the long-awaited gold. Alessio Piergigli took silver for the second year in a row, and the brilliant Vincenzo Maiorca claimed the bronze.

Tomorrow will take place the Open Marathon of the World Skate Marathon Tour, where more than 800 skaters will be at the starting line! This inclusive event welcomes everyone, from professionals to amateurs, offering a shorter 8km distance for those looking to enjoy a pure fun skating experience. It’s a unique opportunity to feel the passion of speed skating in a grand event setting. 

The start will be at 9:00am CET at the Lungomare Via Matteotti.
