World Skate were delighted to host dignitaries from both the International Olympic Committee and LA28 during today’s quarterfinals of the WST World Cup Rome in Parco Colle Oppio this afternoon.
World Skate President Sabatino Aracu guided both outgoing and incumbent IOC presidents Thomas Bach and Kirsty Coventry, as well as Vice-President and Sports Director of LA28, Niccolò Campriani, around our unbeatable venue, giving them the opportunity to appreciate first-hand the dynamism and energy of the World Skateboarding Tour, as the longest day of qualifications went off in the shadow of the mighty Colosseum under an azure Roman sky.
Clearly impressed by the vitality of skateboarding’s remarkable ability to unite, our visitors observed:
“Skateboarding was a great success in its debut in Tokyo, and we could see how well the two communities- the skateboarders, and the traditional athletes- were getting closer to each other in Paris. And now we can’t wait to see the crazy event in LA”- IOC President Thomas Bach
Niccoló Campriani added “World Skate and the IOC are pretty much working together making sure that these athletes can perform in front of the world but (which can) progress the Olympic Games in the best way possible. In the end, it is not just about the Games, it’s about their future lives.”
We would like to thank not only our guests for their time, but all the staff and skaters for making them feel so welcome. Collectively, it was a fantastic experience for all concerned!
