Under the lights of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, 91 flags, a packed crowd and the whole urban world of roller sports came together to open the World Skate Games Asunción 2026.

Asunción, 2 October 2026. A giant stage, an explosion of colour and a mural still taking shape as the night went on: the opening ceremony of the World Skate Games Asunción 2026 turned the headquarters of the Comité Olímpico Paraguayo into the beating heart of roller sports, broadcast live to audiences around the world.

The parade of 91 flags opened the evening, welcoming athletes and delegations from every continent to the first edition of the Games held in Paraguay. The ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic of Paraguay, Santiago Peña, World Skate President Sabatino Aracu, and the President of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, Camilo Pérez Lopez, alongside national and international authorities.

A story on wheels

The show was built around a single, powerful story: the journey of a child growing up in the world, with wheels under their feet and the determination to always get back up. Every fall became a step forward, every stumble a reason to keep rolling. It is the spirit that unites every discipline on the programme, from the skatepark to the rink, from the track to the street, and the message resonated with a crowd made up largely of young people.

United By Wheels

Around the stage, the full culture of roller sports came alive: skaters, riders, musicians and street artists shared the space, while the mural grew live throughout the ceremony, a work in progress that mirrored the Games themselves.

Music kept the energy high all night long, with the Spin & Sound line-up taking the stage: Mauri Román, GuttyRBS, Drago Mondragón, Ibuki Aran, Bruno Mendez, Maxi Bonnin and Karim Manzur brought a mix of sounds and styles that turned the ceremony into a true celebration.

An anthem and a medal with Paraguayan roots

Two moments marked the evening as historic. World Skate presented its official anthem to the world for the first time, a new sound for the global roller sports family.

The medals of the Games were also unveiled, dedicated to the galoperas, one of Paraguay's most cherished traditions: women who dance and spin with grace and balance, turning just like wheels. A tribute that ties the identity of the host country to the very essence of roller sports.
