Spain is the new Women's World Champion. In the final of Iquique, played in front of 1.600 fans and with thousands connected with FIRS TV from all over the world, Spain got the gold medal at the end of an amazing and exciting game against Portugal. The world title has been assigned at the last second of the first overtime; Maria Diez gave to her team the decisive point.
Now, Spain is both European and World Champion in female rink hockey.
As said before, the final game of Iquique offered the best in female rink hockey nowadays. Spain, as European Champion, was one of the most accreditated pretender to the title. And the first part of the final against Portugal seemed to confirm that. Laura Puigdueta scored the first spanish goal at th 15th minute of the 1st half and doubled at the beginning of the 2nd. In the second part of the match, Portugal performed a come back and in few minute tied the game thanks to Marta Vieira and Marlene Sousa.
The Final went so at the extratime where Spain got its victory.
The 3rd place and bronze medal went to Argentina that won 4-0 the game with France.
Iquique 2016 was the last stand-alone women's world championship; starting from 2017, this championship will be part of the World Roller Games that will take place in Nanjing, China.
