The final game of the 2014 Masters World Cup unexpectedly became an one-sided affair. Czech Republic scored five times in the first half against France and on the home court in Eden, Prague celebrates the return to the throne!
Reactions
Alain Blanchet (France): Czechs skated really well in gold medal match. It’s really hard to compete with them, when they play at home, they are really strong team. We wanted to win, but silver medal is great accomplishment. We’ll come back next year in Hamburg and will try to beat Czechs. I would love to have Masters World Cup here in Prague every year, because it’s such a nice city.
Martin Mecera (Czech Republic): Our players totally fulfilled the tactical plan which was to score earlier than France and then let them try to get the pressure. They have strong two lines and believed they could beat us with them, but after quick goals they didn’t find an answer.

Slovaks won the bronze playing against Italy 3-1. Italy proved to be tough as they wanted revenge for the last year´s loss, as well in the bronze medal game. Slovaks got the lead midway through the first half and were overall the better opponent. With two more goals in the second half they sealed the deal, while Kohut was left shy of a shutout by 52 seconds.
Reactions
Dušan Szilli (Slovakia): Boys played really responsibly from the defence, so the Italians couldn’t score a goal until the final minute. We wanted to save the shutout for our goalie, which we didn’t make, but that doesn’t matter. The main thing is that we won.
David Ninzatti (Italy): We hoped to win and we didn’t, so congratulations to Slovakia for their bronze medal. They played better and we tried to score in the last twenty minutes, but we took another two goals and scored at only one minute remaining.
