WRG2017 Speed Skating: 16 medals were awarded in the last day of the Track Championship

A big effort from all the athletes, coaches, judges, volunteers, organization and press  has been made to make this day possible. Races started in the early morning at 8:00 am with the qualification of 300mt Time Trials where the best 12 skaters will race the final after during the day. Right after took place some intense 1000mt semifinal and finals. Then long distance races and to close the night the spectacular Relays.

Junior Ladies: Very strong and smart race from the Colombian Elvira Perez at her first World Championships. In fact, Giorgia Bormida took the initiative to start the sprint but after the ring of the bell, Elvira passed her and with a very fast last lap she won the Gold Medal, silver for Giorgia Bormida and 3rd for her teammates Anais Pedroni.


Junior Men: Daniele di Stefano, showed that he is in a great shape at the moment winning the race in a very strong way. 2 laps to go he took the front and no one could pass him, 2nd place for Colombia Ivan Campo and 3rd South Korea with Park Eunho.


Senior Ladies: What an impressive race for all of them, where only the photofinish could define the results. Second gold of the day from Colombia with Luz Karime Garzon . 2nd place for Francesca Lollobrigida, Italy, and 3rd Sandrine Tas from Belgium.


Senior Men: History was made for Venezuela today thanks to Josè Guzman who won a really hard race, beating Andres Felipe Munoz on the finish line. 3rd place for Alvaro Carasquilla, Colombia.


Next race was the 300mt Time Trial Final. Skaters have raced their last 300mt TT at a World Championships. From next year the event has been canceled.

Junior Ladies: Colombia Daniela Mendoza is unbeatable in the last laps and won the gold medal followed by Yun Sola from South Korea and 3rd place for Italy Beatrice Fausti.


Junior Men: Great work from the 2 French, 2 Colombians and 2 South Korean skaters who control the pace of the race. But from behind Italy’s superstar Daniele di Stefano seemed to fly in the last lap. That’s how he conquer his gold medal, second place for Martin Ferrie France, 3rd for Jeong Byeonghee.


- 10000 points/elimination


Senior Ladies: An impressive performance once again for the strongest Senior girls in the World. It was a really fast race where the girls pushed themselves to the limit.From the beginning various group tried to attack to catch points. But in the end the one and only Francesca Lollobrigida took the win thanks to her last lap finishing with 15 points. 2nd place Fabriana Arias Colombia, 13 points and 3rd for Sandrine Tas 13 points, Belgium.


Senior Men: The race was characterized by a lot of crushes, breakaways and disqualifications. In fact the winner of the race Timothy Loubineaud, who was on a breakaway with Patxi Peula, Spain, most of the race, got DSQ because of a fault when he was still in the peloton. Patxi Peula then is the new World Champion of the race, 2nd place Alexis Contin from France, 3rd place Jorge Bolaños from Ecuador.



The day ends with Relay.

Tomorrow it will be a well deserved rest day after 2 full days at the track. The day after tomorrow we will move to the Road Circuit. The race schedule provides 100mt sprint for all categories. 10000 points race for Junior and 20000 elimination for Senior.
