FIRS Sports Medicine Commission (SMC) is please to welcome Ron Tabaddor as a new member. His curriculum vitae is below. Ron is very keen that the SMC is expanded include medical personnel with a range of skill sets to create a team environment where athlete health and safety, both at competitions and in training, can be optimised.


With this in mind, over the next month or so, National federations will be asked to provide contact details of medical personnel including physicians, physiotherapists, trainers, nurses, and others working with them so that we can start to build the team. Your co-operation with this will be very much appreciated.


 


 


Curriculum Vitae  - Ron Tabaddor


 


I am a board certified orthopedist specializing in operative and non-operative sports medicine injuries as well as in arthroscopic surgical management of disorders in and around the hip. I currently practice orthopedic surgery in Rhode Island, USA.  I serve as head team physician of URI football as well as facilitate care of all URI student-athletes. I sit on the Rhode Island Interscholastic League Sports Medicine Advisory Committee helping to ensure the health and safety of all high school athletes in the state of Rhode Island. I am a Clinical Assistant Professor at The Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University engaging in the teaching of medical students, residents and fellows. Recently I was honored with the Dean’s Excellence in Teaching Award at The Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University.


 


I graduated with honors from Boston University and attended Boston University School of Medicine. I completed my general surgery internship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/ Harvard Medical School followed by my orthopedic training at the Harvard Combined Orthopedic Residency Program where I served as Chief Administrative Resident in my final year of training. I continued my training with a sports medicine fellowship with specialized training in hip arthroscopy at Minnesota Sports Medicine in Minneapolis affiliated with the University of Minnesota. While there, I assisted in team coverage for the University of Minnesota Gopher football, basketball and wrestling teams. I was also the team physician for the Hamline University football program as well as numerous local high school football programs.


My physician coverage experience includes The Boston Ballet, Special Olympics, U.S.A. Indoor Track and Field National Championships and NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament. I am currently the team physician for the U.S. National In-line Speed Skating Team, having covered world championships in Italy and Belgium.


 


My professional affiliations include the American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine, American Society of Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Association of North America, International Society of Hip Arthroscopy, American Medical Association, Rhode Island Orthopedic Society and American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
