The 6th African Speed Skating Championships and the 4th African Inline Freestyle Championships mark another step in the continent’s work to develop and structure the sport across Africa.
From 1 to 5 May 2026, Cairo hosted a landmark double event for African roller sports: the 6th African Speed Skating Championships and the 4th African Inline Freestyle Championships. Organized by the Egypt Skate Federation under the auspices of World Skate Africa, the five days of competition were more than a title race.
They were a clear signal of a continent investing in the growth, the structure and the future of the sport.
Held under the leadership of World Skate Africa, the Championships reflect a continental project that is steadily taking shape: recurring continental titles, growing national programs and a rising number of nations competing at a high technical level. Each edition strengthens the framework that allows African athletes to progress, compete and build a pathway toward the international stage.
A Continental Project, Led From The Top
The event brought together a strong delegation of officials committed to the long-term development of roller sports in Africa. The delegation was headed by Dr. Nathanael Koty, President of World Skate Africa, and Dr. Yasser Elshami, President of the Egypt Skate Federation and Vice President of World Skate Africa, joined by Mr. Julien Konan, Secretary-General of World Skate Africa.
On the organizing side, the Egypt Skate Federation delivered the Championships through a dedicated leadership team: Mr. Hassan Ahmed, Board Member and General Supervisor of the Championships; Mr. Mohamed Ibrahim, Executive Director of the Egypt Skate Federation and Championship Director; and Mr. Yehia Mansour, Financial Director of the Egypt Skate Federation and Deputy Championship Director.
Growth on display: Speed Skating
The speed skating program confirmed both the strength of the host nation and the widening base of competition across the continent. Egypt topped the overall ranking, followed by South Africa and Angola, with Liberia also joining the field as national programs continue to expand.

The inline freestyle competition told the same story of development, with six nations reaching the medal table across a highly technical program. Egypt again finished on top, followed by Angola and Kenya, while Libya, Côte d’Ivoire and Liberia all contributed to a broad and competitive field, a healthy sign for the discipline’s future on the continent.
Building clear pathways for African athletes
The Cairo Championships underlined the ambition that drives roller sports in Africa: not only to crown champions, but to build the structure, the competitions and the pathways that let athletes across the continent grow and reach the global stage.

With continental championships now firmly established, growing national programs and a rising technical level in both disciplines, the 2026 edition in Cairo stands as another milestone in Africa’s long-term project to develop and structure the sport, and to open the road for its athletes on the international stage.
