Dear World Skate Friends,
It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Monsieur Gilbert Portier, former President of the ILH International Technical Committee and a cherished member of the Inline Hockey community.
A dedicated advocate for Inline Hockey within the French Federation (FFRS), Gilbert Portier was instrumental in the growth of the sport. As the first head of the National Committee from 1996 to 2006, he played a pivotal role in elevating Inline Hockey, achieving top-level status recognition by the French government. In 2006, he championed the creation of the European Inline Hockey Committee, serving as its inaugural leader. Two years later, he joined the Fédération Internationale de Roller Sports (FIRS, now World Skate) and led the International Inline Hockey Committee until 2016.
We remember him as a visionary and a driving force in the sport, whose contributions were vital to its growth and success. He was committed to expanding the reach of Inline Hockey, establishing new championships, and providing opportunities for athletes of all categories. We express our gratitude and bid farewell to this remarkable sportsman who has left us at the age of 92.
Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
With heartfelt thanks.
A final "Merci, Monsieur Gilbert," from Andrea Fonzari, Inline Hockey Chair
