The highly anticipated 2025 World Skate Marathon Tour is set to begin with its first stage in Shanghai, China, on March 30th. Following last year's success, the tour returns to the iconic Bund with an exciting race format and impressive prize pool that promises to elevate marathon skating to new heights.
A New Season of Records and Rewards
The Shanghai Stage kicks off with an impressive prize structure that includes $25,000 USD per gender in the Pro category, rewarding the top 15 finishers. First place winners will receive $10,000, with prizes scaling down to $200 for 15th place. A special "Best Combative Skater" award of $500 per gender adds extra excitement to the race.
The season-long competition offers additional motivation with end-of-year prizes totaling $80,000 ($40,000 per gender) for the Pro category and special recognition for Future Stars (Under 22) with a $3,000 prize per gender. Teams will compete for a season-ending prize pool of $80,000, with the winning team taking home $16,000.
Defending Champions and New Challengers
The 2024 tour saw outstanding performances from pro athletes Gabriela Vargas (Arena Geisingen CCN team) and Nolan Beddiaf (FR Skates Tax Racing) who claimed the individual titles. Powerslide Vesmaco dominated the team competition, while Maria Vargas (NL-Premium) and Noa Gicquel (Wicked Powerslide) emerged victorious in the Future Stars category.
The 2025 season promises even more excitement as these champions defend their titles against a growing field of international competitors. The unique Shanghai course, combining a 10km point-to-point section with a 5.5km lap circuit, will test both tactical skills and endurance, possibly reshaping the hierarchy of international marathon skating.
